Cape Town in the summer

Yes its that time of year again. the trek home to cape town. the city by the sea.
if you going to be heading down there, heres some tunes for this summer. And feel free to stop by richard's pad and drink his booze.

Sidiku Buari - Advice from the father
Classic disco vibes straight from the dark continent. Designed for pure hedonism...

Farben - Live at the Sahara Tahoe, 1973
One of the sexiest tracks ever made. An alias of Jan Jelinek, not too new, but a classic none the less. perfect for watching coked-up bitches making out to.

Willie Hutch - Brothers gonna work it out
The opener on the Chemical Bro's mixtape of the same name. Never fails on those days hangin by the beach. Mr Hutch was a true visionary, and hearing this, theres no denying.

Barry and Jenny want you to have fun

Its true. Nothing gets Baz and Jen's blood going like young people taking drugs and having sex. Anyways, now for the music.

Francis Monkman - Theme to The Long Good Friday

An absolute classic British gangsta movie circa 1980. Bob Hoskins is fuckin incredible. Its a rather short track, but nonetheless a true gem.

Lee Perry - Jingle Lion

Taken from Madlib's amazing Blunted in the bomshelter. I have yet to find the original, but for now this will do. Incredible drum break, fucking oozes out the stereo. pure funk. even richard likes it.

UNESCO Recording of Baka Pygmies - Music for the Naganga dance

Something a little different. One of the best releases I've heard this year. The Baka Pygmies of central Africa are masters at using the voices. The man on this recording sounds like he came straight from Motown. Not for everyones taste, but you never know until you hear.....

Thats it for now. Richard is currently in Peru getting a very cheap facelift and should be in good spirits shortly. He would appreciate any emails of kindness to see how he is doing.

Cheers

A little something to warm you up, from the Dirk Eskimo.

Trip To Balearock

"In certain pockets of the interweb, there is a quiet revitilazation of one of the more forgotten subgenres in dance music history. Some may refer to it as Balearic (in reference to its origin on the Balearic island of Ibiza, Spain, in the ’80s), others call it ‘Balearock’ (because of its psychadelic vibe) and some SoCal residents have coined the term ‘Pacifica’ to describe its breezy, sleazy and somewhat cheesy sound. Labels like Eskimo Recordings are leading the revival, so we asked label owner Dirk Eskimo to give us a whiff of what Balearic or Balearock or whatever really smells like. Needless to say, we’re diggin’ the fume".
